The Least Bad of All Places - Amos Oz

I have the feeling and belief that kibbutz is the 'least-bad' place to live and the 'least-bad of all the places I know.... I think that this is the only attempt to reconstruct the fabric of the extended family of aunts and grandmothers and far removed cousins... of course it's sometimes suffocating, it's sometimes oppressive ... it's a crowded world, there's a lack of tact, there's pettiness, jealousy, a touch of cruelty and narrow mindedness ... but I believe this is the only place in the world where there is an attempt to build co-operation and equality, neither of which are perfect, but are realized without force or violence.
